How to set up a microSD card for the pi-top[4]. Don’t worry if you’re not super techy—this is a simple step-by-step guide to help you get started.
- What You’ll Need:
A microSD card (this is like a tiny memory card) - A computer with a slot for the microSD card, or an adapter (like a USB stick or SD card holder) to plug it into your computer
Let's get started!
Step 1: Download the file
Go to the Download pi-topOS Page and download the file.
Step 2: Insert the microSD Card
Put the microSD card into your computer. If it doesn’t fit, you might need to slide it into a larger SD card adapter first.
Step 3: Install the Software Using Etcher
There’s a free and easy tool called Etcher that helps you install pi-topOS onto the microSD card. Here’s how to use it:
1. Open Etcher (download it from https://etcher.balena.io/, if you don’t have it yet).
2. Choose the file you downloaded from the pi-top website.
3. Pick your microSD card from the list. Important: Make sure you choose the right one! If you’re unsure, unplug any other drives or USB sticks so only the SD card shows up.
4. Click “Flash” and let Etcher do the rest!
Step 4: Install the Card
Once it finishes, take out the microSD card and plug it into your pi-top device. Turn it on, and you’re ready to go! See the video below for help.
