School background.

Bonner Primary School is a coeducational state school operating on two sites. The school has taken the challenge of delivering a rich and diverse curriculum to ensure that pupils make rapid progress.

The school seeks to provide the students with relevant enrichment activities that extend their learning and develop their skills so that they lead successful lives. The enrichment program aims to make sure children take part in a broad and engaging range of learning experiences.

Solution.

Teachers from Bonner Primary School celebrated how pi-top[3] helped to engender learning agency. Students were actively engaged in the learning challenges. The students demonstrated their learning through giving short presentations on what they learned. This also gave teachers the opportunity to assess the learning of the students.
The learning materials were ready to use on the platform which significantly reduced teachers’ preparation for the lesson. This gave them confidence in using pi-top[3] in future lessons.

Class activity.

The school’s first activity was for their digital leaders to build the pi-top [3] and set them up. The enthusiasm and excitement was transferrable. Soon the whole school was buzzing in excitement about the bright green laptops. The experience was a learning curve for the children and the teachers. The children then went on to work their way through the projects on the pi-top [3].

Results.

Teachers celebrated how pi-top [3] helped to engender learning agency. Students were actively engaged in the learning challenges.

The pi-top's were a fantastic resource because it was the children’s first experience of seeing what is inside a computer and having a hands-on exploration of the various components. It was really inspiring and the experience sparked the children’s curiosity.
